Test Information for Egyptian Students

- What is IELTS ?

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) [website :] is the way to prove your English language skills and open doors to international opportunities. Whether you want to migrate in Canada or Australia or to study in UK , Australia , Sweden , Canada or practice your profession in an English-speaking country, IELTS is vital in preparing you for your journey of success.

IELTS is managed ín Egypt by the British Council Egypt

- IELTS Test Modules/Sections

Candidates are tested in

  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Speaking
  • The first three modules- Listening, Reading, Writing must be completed in one day. No break is given between the three modules.
  • Speaking Module may be taken, at the discretion of the test center, in the period seven days before or after the other three modules.


- Why IELTS is required for student visa ?

A good score in IELTS is an entry requirement for student visa admission in many colleges and universities around the world. IELTS is widely accepted in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada, USA and many countries. Over 1,800 education institutions, professional organizations and accrediting bodies in the USA accepting IELTS as proof of a candidate’s English language skill.

- Validity of IELTS score

IELTS scores are valid for two years and the students are not allowed to repeat the examination for 90 days from the date of first attempt. So it is highly recommended that IELTS participants should be well prepared for the examination.

- IELTS Test Fees in Egypt 

IELTS Test fee is 850 Egyptian Pounds /- for Academic Module or General Training module

- How and where to go for IELTS Registration in Egypt ?

  • Read through the IELTS Information Booklet (dates, registration process, refunds, IELTS support services etc). You can get this IELTS Booklet from British Council Egypt website
  • Complete the form carefully and attach all necessary documents ( photocopy of first 4 pages of passport, three passport size photographs and British Council payment slip if you are paying through bank). You can pay in cash as well. 
  • Submit your completed application with above documents to one of British Council offices in Cairo or Alexandria. 

Please remember that IELTS test registration is first-come-first-serve basis
So, you need to contact them as soon as possible.
You can book the IELTS Test first, then you may spend some time in intensive practice till the test day.
Also NOTE that test results may take 13-15 days to be published on the IELTS website.
